Fixed, Refixed, But Probably Not Transfixed & Perhaps The Better For It

“Description,” said Wallace Stevens, “is revelation.”   Ever the hedger (he was an insurance man in his day job), Stevens writes of “the transfixing object” while seeming to question “rigid realists.”  In his poems, statues can represent “men of bronze,” whose minds were “made up and who, therefore, died.”
